1) Sharepoint Foundation is free to download and use, while Sharepoint Server needs to be purchase.

2) Sharepoint Foundation is base on which Sharepoint Server is developed.

3) Despite being FREE Sharepoint Foundation, includes a number of features such as security and administration, user and team site collaboration, and
document libraries and lists. In essence, it provides a baseline set of features that will enable you to get started with both using SharePoint and developing for SharePoint.

However, SharePoint Server 2010 offers number of valuable features that make the leap to buy worth it. For example, you get additional features such as additional Web parts, Office server-side services such as Word and Excel Services, enhanced search versions, enhanced BI, and much, much more. You can also choose to purchase the Internet-specific edition (SharePoint 2010 For Internet Sites), which will provide you with the rich publishing templates and workflow that you can use to create and deploy SharePoint sites to the wider Web (for example, building a scalable SharePoint site for public, anonymous access).
