XSLT Identity Transform Again (& again)

  Asked By: Guy    Date: May 08    Category: Sharepoint    Views: 962

A quick summay, then my latest finding/query.

I want to see the raw XML data stream produced by various WEB parts
(some OOB, some 3rd party) so that I can build a specific
transform/display of custom lists on a MOSS site. Am using IE6.0 on
an XP sp3 machine. Am implementing the XSLT directly in SPD.

As step #1, I could not get an Identity transform to display via
many very simple experiements, now I find the following tiny change
makes a difference:
=====works
<xmp>
<xsl:copy-of select="*"/>
</xmp>
======does not work
<pre>
<xsl:copy-of select="*"/>
</pre>
=======

What is special about xmp vs. pre? Now of these are reserved tokens
that I know of. If they are reserved, how do you even go about
finding out lists of reserved tokens?

PRE and XMP are HTML tags not XML tags.
PRE interprets HTML tags XMP doesn't.
