XML Web Part Times out

I have two WSS implementations - one is inside the corporate intranet and the other is outside in a DMZ.

In each - common use if the XML Web Part times out. However, when adding the web part, the link, which points to a public XML file on the Internet tests out fine.

What is the common cause for XML Web Part timeouts?
