xls/xlsx crawl and search results

Asked By: Joseph    Date: Sep 22    Category: Sharepoint    Views: 2071

We have a bunch of excel documents that the business has created over time for
documentation. Since the excel docs where used for documents, some of the cells
have a lot of content (300-700 characters). The docs are not very big with most
being under 100K in size.

The problem is the search results. Sometimes I can find the excel doc in the
search and sometimes I can not depending on the text I am searching by. It
seems the text at the front part of each cell is more searchable then text at
the bottom of each cell.

Just for testing, I copied all the content into a word docx and search worked
like a champ.

Are there issues with the crawler and xls/xlsx documents? Is there anyway to
determine what index information sp has for an excel doc?

Very annoying feature. Perhaps it's related to "Office 365 Search is now smarter about spreadsheets ..." (https://blogs.office.com/2014/10/29/office-365-search-now-smarter-spreadsheets/). - See more at: www.go4sharepoint.com/.../...ledindexed-10252.aspx
