WSS/MOSS Best Practices Analyzer returns SQL error

Asked By: Joel Gray         Date: Feb 07, 2007      Category: MOSS      Views: 384

I am running the MOSS BPA on my new MOSS 2007 install, and am getting
some useful information on issues it found in MOSS. However, it is
returning this error, when trying to review our SQL 2005 setup:

Error connecting to SQL Server
An error has occurred while establishing a connection to the server.
When connecting
to SQL Server 2005, this failure may be caused by the fact that under
the
default settings SQL Server does not allow remote connections.
(provider: Named
Pipes Provider, error: 40 - Could not open a connection to SQL Server)

Our DBA has confirmed that remote connections is enabled, and I do not
see any issues in the MOSS server event logs. Anyone have other ideas?

I spend almost a day trying to modify the text in the "Select People and
Groups" dialog box in MOSS, but could not go anywhere. Can anyone
kindly offer some tips? You can access this page when add a new user
(_layouts/aclinv.aspx). Click the image below adding Users and Groups
control box.
