WSS3.0 Search services is not finding anything

Asked By: Angie    Date: May 03    Category: Sharepoint    Views: 2907

Search is not returning any thing.
No MS office docs, no site content, no PDF docs.

Central Administration / Operations shows
Windows SharePoint Services Search as Started.
The Windows Event Viewer reports that the search service started OK.

How can I trouble shoot this? where do I start?
I did not find a knowledge base article on this topic.

Is this Windows SharePoint Services-only implementation? If not, then
the Office Search Server needs to be started  too.

Have you checked that the content  databases are configured with a search  server.
Check the properties of each content database and look near the bottom of the
page. There is a dropdown where you can allocated a search server to the
database.

While you are at it, why not consider upgrading to Microsoft Search Server 2008
Express. Gives you MOSS like search capabilities for WSS.

Is there any good (technical) documentation on integrating MSS 2008
Express with MOSS or WSS. Our users are very disappointed in the WSS
or contextual level search  in MOSS.

Is the content  database configured at the Site Actions Page, or within the
individual List? I have configured search  under the Site Actions Page/Site
Admin and Site Colleciton Admin, with the same ineffective results. I have
also configured search under the List / Advanced Settings / Search, with the
same ineffective results.

If there are other places to further configure search, I would like to know.
Using the help to identify these is also ineffective.

Try Central Administration, Application Manglement, content  databases.
In that screen, select the correct web application, then open the
properties of the content database that host the site  collection in
question. The Windows SharePoint Services 3.0 Search server is defined
in the drop-down.
