WSS and Version Pruning?

Asked By: Grant    Date: Jul 11    Category: Sharepoint    Views: 1251

Does anyone know of a method to limit the number of documents in a version?

Eventually this can be a HUGE resource strain as my document collaboration needs and versions increase. Besides implementing a quarterly practice of going in and manually deleting older versions is there a tool that limits the amount of document versions?

WSS doesn’t support version  limit. You will need to develop an archiving process to limit  version #

Have you tried "Handling document  library events" (of course you have write some code)? You can write an assembly to look after this. Say if you set in your code the documents  should reach a max of 5 versions, while somebody edits it the lowest version  will get deleted. You can even move the older  versioned docs into another doc library. A lot of thing you can do with this.
You can go thru the SDK, it contains the exact example of how to delete older versions.
