WSS SPS upgrade, uninstall problems

Asked By: Sydney Mckenzie         Date: Apr 14, 2010      Category: Sharepoint      Views: 256

Got a pair of queries. Here they go:

1. I had both WSS and SPS installed on my machine. I also had WSS
site collection and a portal site. When i uninstalled SPS, keeping
WSS as such, my WSS site collections stopped functioning(I get
a "Sorry, the page you are looking for can not be found" ERROR).

2. After all this i uninstalled WSS also. Then i deleted all the
Config and Content Databases also.
After all this i started afresh with WSS 2.0 install. I created a
site collection.
Then i installed SPS, it gave me a warning that my WSS sites will be
no more available, i will have to connect to them again using the
Config Databases.
Now how should i get back my site collection, i could find no way
doing this from Central Admin

The major issue here is that SPS install/uninstall also includes WSS, as it is a
pre-requisite. You don't need to (and shouldn't) install  WSS seperately.

Database

Depends on the state of the database itself - do the content  databases still
exist? If so, take a look at the WSS admin  guide, specifically the topics on
managing content databases.
