WSS Sites disappearance

Asked By: Zane    Date: Jun 03    Category: Sharepoint    Views: 487

We’ve had experienced a bizarre problem with SharePoint. For the last month, every Friday at midnight, we’ve lost all our sites created with Sharepoint. We’ve thought, we had a problem with SQL and made a lot of tests and traces to isolate the problem. Finally, last week we’ve disabled the automatic sites delete, to see if that was not the problem. Effectively, the problem was created by this option.

The automatic delete is in the configure Site Collection Use Confirmation and Auto-Deletion.

Who was receiving the warning email messages? I’d be more concerned about the email messages not being sent or received properly than the site  deletion function. The email to the site owners should allow them the choice to click on a link that will enable them to ensure their sites  are not deleted.

The logic of the Virtual Server's "Configure site  Collection Use
Confirmation and Auto-Deletion" (AKA Dead Web) feature is broken anyway.
It will ask every n days if you still want to keep _every_ Site
Collection you own, rather than just the unused ones (as the page
suggests). Even if you just used Sites in the Site Collection yesterday,
it will still ask if you want to keep it. If you don't respond after n
notices, it may automatically delete  the Site Collection.

Every sites  created within SPS were deleted each Friday at 12:00AM. No warnings were received prior to this. Since we’ve disabled  the function, the problem  disappeared.

I would still be concerned that no one was receiving the emails.
