I am trying to get to grips with an inherited WSS Site..

is there anyway I can produce a list of all documents in the site that
would also indicate which doc library they belong in.??..

If you go to the Storage Space Allocation page of a site  collection you
can see all documents  in all sites. The path will show you the site it
belongs to. It's not as intuitive as seeing the site name but it's what
you can get out of the box.

Otherwise you can build something to do the same (using web services to
get the information if you want to do it remotely). Just have to iterate
through all the documents in all doclibs in all sites.

The only way I've found is to either use a 3rd party web part (there are several
document library  treeview controls) or to write your own - which I've done as
well - using the object model.
