WSS on Server 2008 Error "HTTP 500 : Cannot Display the Web Page"

Asked By: Jessika Rosales         Date: Feb 20, 2010      Category: Sharepoint      Views: 708

I'm doing WSS only on a two server farm. They are both Server 2008 and the DB is
SQL Server 2008.

After the configuration wizard completes, instead of Central Administration, I
get "Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage" error.

The default web site works through port 80.

I've turned off the Windows Firewall with Enhanced Security. I've tried,
LocalHost, the FQDN for the server and the IP address to no avail.

Anyone know what I might be missing?

Is your sharepointsite site on port 80? If you set a different port number. Try
adding a colon port number to the end of the address.

Ex. http://sitename:port#

Or try http://servername

Do you have a dns entry? May need to add one.

No, I specified a port number in the Configuration Wizard (64000) so I'm trying
to load the Central Admin home page, i.e. http://myserver:64000. Also, I
specified NTLM.

Since I reinstalled WSSv3 with SP1, now, I don't get the error, I just get a
blank page.
