WSS Search Running Slow

Asked By: Aiesha    Date: Feb 27    Category: Sharepoint    Views: 1535

I am working on a customers sharepoint installation and we have
noticed that it takes upwards of 30 seconds for a WSS search to be
performed from the root of a site collection. The WSS site collection
is a no way large. The portal search performs in about a second. Is
there a way to speed up the wss searches or something that mahy not be
setup correctly?

If WSSV2, then WSS search  is a function of SQL, so check SQL CPU. If WSSV3, then
it's the same search engine either way, and is probably an issue with the site
collection search scope.

It is version 2. All of the sites seam to be running  smoothly and
load quickly (including un-ghosted pages). The only thing that is
running slow  is the WSS searches.

Check your SQL Full Text Indexing configuration. That is most likely the root  of
your problem. If that isn't it, I am out of ideas...
