WSS Search - PDF Images

Asked By: Kari Stone         Date: Sep 05, 2006      Category: Sharepoint      Views: 185

How would I search Adobe PDF scanned images, without an OCR solution?
We are about to install WSS with SQL 2005. I was hoping we could use
a "workaround" solution: - searching off of filenames, and/or perhaps
by - searching off of categories in a document list.

TIFF files are automatically indexed via OCR when using SPS Search. WSS
uses SQL Server full text indexing and will likely require a 3rd party
product of some kind.

SharePoint Portal Server contains a TIFF Index Filter that performs OCR
on TIFF files, and indexes the text in the file. There are some language
limits:
support.microsoft.com/default.aspx

This is great for electronic faxes saved as TIFF files.
