WSS Lists

I need to create a list within a Windows Sharepoint Services site which
has an auto-increment id field.

I know I can create an issue list and customise it but this will not
allow me rename the id field from "issue id".

Is there some way I can rename the issue id or create a new
auto-increment id field?

I would be interested in this as well. I had a similar request not too long
ago from a user who wanted to have a generated field  containing an id using
the date and a sequence number for the day (e.g. 2004-08-23-0001).

I have found that I can modify the Schema.xml file in C:\Program
Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\web server
extensions\60\TEMPLATE\1033\STS\LISTS\ISSUE to change DisplayName="Issue
ID" to DisplayName="ID". These changes rename  the ID field  as required.

However, the words "Issue ID" are still displaying in the list  view &
edit forms at the bottom where the created/modified details are
displayed. How can I change this section of the page?
