WSS Eventing and Registry Error

Asked By: Martha    Date: Jan 17    Category: Sharepoint    Views: 859

I was trying out the WSSEventing example on MSDN
URL:
msdn.microsoft.com/.../sharepoint_wsseventi" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">msdn.microsoft.com/.../sharepoint_wsseventi
ng.asp?_r=1
<msdn.microsoft.com/.../sharepoint_wssevent
ing.asp?_r=1&frame=true> &frame=true
But I get the following error in the event log
Unable to instantiate event handler (assembly "WSSEventSink,
Version=1.0.0.1, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=86dd02446ad35677",
class "WSSEventSink.EventSink"), or report event for "Shared
Documents/defect categories.txt" in "Shared Documents". Requested
registry access is not allowed.
So I did a google search for "Requested registry access is not allowed."
And found this

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb%3Ben-us%3B329291
So now I am wondering
1- do I need to create a registry key to allow eventing for SPS
1.1- if so what should the key name be
2- Other than for giving the w3wp (or aspnet_wp) process admin rights on
the local machine are there any other ways to overcome this?

I have not looked at the eventing  example but you might try setting the
trust access  level to full and see if that works. Here is the link:
msdn.microsoft.com/.../
html/sharePoint_WSSCodeAccessSecurity.asp

You would not want to leave this at full if it does work, but work back
from that to allow for the minimal access needed.
