WSS on a company Extranet

Asked By: Harley    Date: Jun 28    Category: Sharepoint    Views: 717

Can WSS be deployed on a company extranet. I find a lot of information
for SPS but not WSS. How does Sharepoint authenticate users who are
not employees but customers (outside the company firewall). Any
additional information anyone can supply me is greatly appreciated. We
have already deployed WSS on our Intranet.

I have an WSS site facing internet. Pretty good so far. I have a domain controller so I am creating NT user on that domain and autheticate users  using NT. You can use the server local account if you dont have domain controller.

Sure, WSS can be used on an Extranet. All users  must typically be kept
in Active Directory (or at least mapped to an Active Directory account -
see the white paper in our Premium Content). IIS performs all
authentication for SPPT.
