WSS 3.0 install

Asked By: Virgil    Date: Nov 02    Category: Sharepoint    Views: 1462

Will it work if I install WSS 3.0 and full SQL Server 2005/2008 on the
same server? I dont mean the default SQL express or desktop engine that
would be installed in a single server deployment install.

Sure, you can do that. If your machine resources can handle it and you're
not going for heavy usage, it'll work  just fine. Just make sure you don't
do the simple installation, or you won't be able to break it up later.

yes, it will work. But how well really depends on the level of activity, the
server environment (CPU, RAM), and what exactly you are trying to do with
WSS. my company has several different Sharepoint environments, and one is a
single server  environment. Like Peter mentioned, make sure you choose the
simple install, so you can upgrade later.

Just to clarify...I would install  SQL server  2005 first, then install
WSS 3 and wire it up to the SQL instance. I am not sure what you mean
by "simple install"

Simple is one option when installing SharePoint. I suggest avoiding it.

If you want to use a full  instance of SQL, on the same machine as
SharePoint or not, Do not do a "Basic" install. Do an "Advanced"

If you choose Simple install  SharePoint will install to a copy of SQL express
and will not allow you to redirect it to a SQL instance even if its installed  on
the same server. To install to a full  copy of SQL you need to do a Full install
and then simply point at the local box for the SQL instance.

Yes, which is why I said NOT to do the Simple install.
