WSS 2.0 - WSS 3.0 Question

We had origionally had WSS 2.0 installed and then we uploaded WSS 3.0
and - is it possible to uninstall 2.0 and keep 3.0 intack? We have
issues with alerts and it is my understanding that by running 2.0 and
3.0 this problem occurs.
