WSS 2.0 Web Services Question

Asked By: Kamal    Date: Dec 11    Category: Sharepoint    Views: 1443

Is there an easy way to utilize Sharepoint web services in this example?
(or any other easy way c#, asp.net, javascript in an HTML, or content
editor web-part w/ a button) ?

Basically, all I want to do is build a button on a team site that when a
user clicks it, it logs the following to an item in a WSS2.0 list on the
same site.

The information the list should be:

- User Display Name

- User Email Address

- Date/Time stamp

- User NTLogin id

Is there an easy way to do this?

msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms774637.aspx describes a web
service call that will give you everything but the time stamp,
describes the web  service that will allow you to write a new list  item.

...and articles.techrepublic.com.com/...8_11-5887775.html
talks about how to call web  services from Javascript. Put js code in a
Content Editor as the onclick action for a button  image and viola.
There shouldn't be security implications since the web services  are
coming from a URL on the same site.

Here's a non-programmer way that I figured out, just in case you need

Create a new custom list  for the user  info you need, I called it
Create a workflow on your list, set to manually run.
Only one action needed, Create list item  in "CustomUserInfo". The only
field I put in there was just the word "user" in the title field.

THEN, create a workflow on the CustomUserInfo list, set to run on
Set DisplayName (a people picker field) to "Created By"
Set NTlogin (a text field) to "Created By" also.
It will automatically put a time stamp. The only part I don't know how
to do is the email  address field part.

Oh, and I guess you'd have to create some sort of custom button  to make
that first one run, so you wouldn't have to click on Workflows, and
click on Start.
