WSS 2.0 Forcing Check-In and Check-Out

Is there any way to force CI/CO in a document library?

Not in version 2, but in version 3 you can.

Agreed. I will use my favorite Microsoft answer, "its all in the next version"

This was a frequently requested option in v2 and I know I read someone's
post that had implemented a custom JavaScript hack to remove the option
to get the document  if it wasn't checked out.
