WSS 2.0 Error when trying to browse for web part

Asked By: Ladonna    Date: Jan 04    Category: Sharepoint    Views: 1403

I was trying to add an existing 'links' list to the front of the WSS 2.0
site http://[server]/teamsite3/default.aspx. I went through modify
shared web, add web parts, browse, and after a long pause, I got this.
I can do the same step on another site
http://[server]/teamsite7/default.aspx WITHOUT seeing this error. How
can I possibly fix this issue for this site?

Your screen shot was removed but I'm guessing that you are seeing a
message that says something like: "An error  has occurred".

In WSS v2, you will need to set CustomErrors="RemoteOnly" in the
web.config and browse  to the page on the server or set
CustomErrors="Off" and browse to the page from any client to see that
actual error message. Setting this value to "Off" poses a security risk
as it exposes the actual error that a nefarious person could exploit.

In WSS v3, you must also set CallStack="true" to see the error details.

I end up open the page right on the server and saw the error  that I was
looking for. It is all good now.
