How to use .wsp web parts in my hosted wss3 site?

Asked By: Nakul    Date: Sep 27    Category: Sharepoint    Views: 1862

I have a hosted wss3 site. I want to add some web-parts through the
web-gui interface, but it seems only to accept .dwp web parts while the ones I
find are .wsp web parts. Can I do something to add them, or do I need to talk
my provider into doing this?

You'll need to talk to your hosting provider  to install a .wsp solution
file. You can't do it through the web-gui.

Are you sure, you are not able to upload .wsp files? What is the error
message you are getting?

WSP files are SharePoint Solution packages and must be installed by a Farm
administrator using a command line. They can't be uploaded in SharePoint

I just discovered that my hosting provider  doesn't allow 3rd
party web  parts unless you upgrade the hosting plan. What a bother! You just
cannot foresee all the problems until you actually enter into a project!
