Asked By: Code    Date: Aug 19    Category: Sharepoint    Views: 1092

How to take a workspace backup in SPS ? I am now using MSDMBACK
utility to backup / restore SPS. Like to backup seperate workspace in
SPS, it could be easy to shift between Production & Staging servers.

The MSDMBack utility is an all or nothing backup. You can not backup  a
single workspace. Here is a link to look at for some third party backup
solutions. Various ones have talked about workspace  level backup but I
have not used one of these myself. Another tool to look at is the
Import/Export tool from the resKit. This tool works for some of the
objects but not all for example custom forms and web parts are not
migrated. The tool has source code so you might be able to use this as
starting porint.

The MSDMBACK utility does not allow you to restore  individual
workspaces. It only backups and restore the entire SPS.

you will not be able to backup/restore single SPS - Workspaces with
MSDMBACK. You can use the Veritas- or CommVault-Agent to do this. You can
try the tools on the SharePoint Ressourcekit -
