Working with SPPS 2003 Doc Library form Web Folders

Asked By: Jonah Huffman         Date: Nov 09, 2005      Category: Sharepoint      Views: 275

In SPPS 2001, users can work with documents without having to use
Internet browsers such as IE using Web Folders and Sharepoint client
components. For advanced users this is a great facility. For example,
users can use feature extensions of web folders available after client
components are installed such as check-in and check-out right there
within web folders.

With SPPS 2003 I can easily create a web folder to any of SPPS 2003's
document library but the sharepoint features such as check in/out are
not there. Are there any client components to make this happen in the
web folders for SPPS2003 document libraries?

Office 2003 provides functionality "such as check-in and check-out" for
office documents. There is an entire tool pane for interacting with
associated Workspaces when editing Office documents.

There isn't a Windows Explorer plug-in for 2003 like there was for 2001.
So, other document types don't have the same luxury but most of the
documents stored in document libraries are Office documents.

They actually pulled out functionality in the 03 doc  lib compared to the
01 doc lib. IIRC, this is not possible OOB in 03.
