Workflows on a Sub-Site

Asked By: Nand    Date: Dec 01    Category: Sharepoint    Views: 2339

I have Site for my department's management team, which has a sub-site
for the department employees. I would like to have review and
approval workflows for the employee sub-site document libraries that
send the tasks to a task list on the manager main site.

This means the tasks would flow "up hill" from the sub-site to the
main site collection. Is this possible? Does anyone have any advice?

This would require either a custom action for a SharePoint Designer workflow or
a Visual Studio workflow. By default workflow tasks  are always created in the
current site  where the item being processed is.

Leave the "management tasks" on the employees sub-site. You can still send
"tickler eMail" to management  persons. Have management view them (& access
them) via roll-up WEB parts on "mgmt site."

Can you recommend any particular rollup web parts? I know that third-party
components are available from CorasWorks and Bamboo, among others, but
haven't used any of them.

The Content Query Web Part is an out of box rollup web part that may
do the trick.

Alternately, there's a way to open the site  in SP Designer, and in
the Data Source Library, click Connect to another library, and pick
the subsite's url. That way, you could pick any list  or library from
that sub-site  to display a level up on the main  site.

Yes, Heather Solomon's blog shows how to modify the CQWP:
