More Workflow Question: how to format date and get user name instead

Asked By: Kami    Date: Oct 25    Category: Sharepoint    Views: 2489

In SPD workflow, in the "Send an Email" action, you can use lookups to
customize the message. In the message, I use a datetime field and user
field. I would like to format the datetime and use user's actual name
instead of login. I checked out both "Build a dynamic string" and
variable, but could not figure out a way to do this. Can above be done?

You are going to have to find a way to query LDAP to pull
the "displayName". We used the 'in the box' SharePoint and SPD
workflows for about 2 weeks and went with a package deal. The one-time
cost paid for itself with our first workflow  vs having our .Net
developers spending two month creating it.

Nintex Workflow 2007 is what we went with it and works great for us.

I never had any luck, because all you can do is modify the html and you
need to get to the xsl to add this "ddwrt:FormatDate(string(@"Date
Field") ,1033 ,1)". However, have you tried a calculated column that
is equal to the date  field? You will need to turn content types on and
hide the field  later.

This is what I am afraid of hearing.
