Workflow generated from InfoPath form with PKI signatures

Asked By: Ladonna    Date: Jul 11    Category: Sharepoint    Views: 2348

We are wanting to kick-off a workflow in SharePoint when an InfoPath form is
submitted. The fields in the form will be site columns storing the metadata so
we should be able to use those values in the workflow business rules. At
various steps in the workflow, users will approve the form using PKI. The part
I'm not sure about is if those digital signatures are recognized as objects that
a business rule could be built off of using SharePoint Designer. Has anyone
tried this or come up with another way to accomplish moving the form onto the
next stage of a workflow after it has been digitally signed/approved? We're
trying to keep it simple and avoid using Visual Studio if possible.

I would use a drop down field with approve  and Reject options. On Submit, if the
field is set to approve, it moves the workflow  forward. if rejected it alerts
someone or changes the workflow to some sort of mitigation. It's a lot easier to
use this method than to check if a signature field is null in my experience. You
can also add more options to this drop down and have the workflow move in other
directions such as, collect more feedback, get a second approval...etc
