Workflow on data view web part question

Asked By: Tyson    Date: Oct 21    Category: MOSS    Views: 1277

I have created a data view to read and write to a SQL table and so far is
working just fine. I want to add a workflow to update certain fields but when I
try to add the workflow in SPD, my data view does not appear in the list of
available lists.
Can anybody tell me how to do this with SPD 2007 or point me in the right
direction? I'm using MOSS 2007.

A data view isn't a list, which is why you don't see it. Your Designer based
workflows are not going to be able to write back to your data source.
Someone who knows code might be able to provide you with something, but the
Designer actions simply work on the data in your lists. Your data view is
using its own connection to your backend data source to pull and display
that information. This is separate from your lists and libraries.

But in the spirit of the Q, does anyone
have experience with Layer2's query web part?

I believe they have created a "new list type" which has the typical data view
features, BUT, has the persistence of a permanent SP list. It is populated
from external OR internal SP data.

Can anyone comment?
