Word files crash in Sharepoint with Office Converter?

Asked By: Johanna    Date: Oct 01    Category: MOSS    Views: 2032

We're running WSS2 at the moment. We're also halfway through an upgrade
to Office 2007 in our organization.

In the interim, they installed the Office 2007 Converter tool on those
machines that don't yet have Office 2007.

We're having an issue where some people, when they click on a MS Word
file within Sharepoint, have their browser immediate crash on them

I think this might be affecting those with the office converter tool,
but I haven't been able to nail that down as being the culprit.

They can still open other office files (XLS, PPT, etc.) and they can
still right-click and SAVE AS... and then open the file. It's just that
clicking on the Word file directly crashes IE6. These are Office 2003

So, just wondering if anyone else has run into this symptom and if
they've been able to trace it back to specific software...namely the
Office Converter Pack.

I've had Word files  crash IE when accessing them on a sharepoint  Doc
library. This problem has usually started happening after adding
Office 2007 applications and/or MS patches to Office.

Most often, running  a Office Repair in both 2003 & 2007 apps on the
client machines fixed it.

MS has a hotfix available also, see
