Word 2003 Sharepoint 2007 Intermittent Document Corruption

Asked By: Ashu    Date: Dec 29    Category: MOSS    Views: 1792

We have a document collaboration portal (SharePoint 2007 Standard) protected by
Cisco firewall for Internet users.

Users generally log into the portal and edit the word documents by selecting
'Edit in Microsoft Word' from the drop menu next the wiord document.

We have a situation where users occasionally get document corruption when
checking documents back in or simply saving them.

There are no additional non-sharepoint web apps runnning on the WFE and the
server and ULS logs are not showing any unusual operations.

Has anyone else seen this issue and can anyone suggest possible solutions? I
have checked the client machines av logs and again nothing unusual.

I think the problem is with the client machines or communication between client
machines and sharepoint. If anyone else has seen this please let me know what
you did to resolve the issue?

Can you let us know:
SharePoint service Pack
Version and service pack of the Office the client is using

SP 2007 Service Pack 2, Offic3 2003 SP3

I think I have found the solution to this. I tracked the corrupted documents
down in the versions table and it appears that some of the client machines are
trying to check in the documents as docx - despite only have Office 2003

I think client machines are the problem and not SharePoint 2007.
