Windows sharepoint services backup

Does anyone know how to backup a site in WSS.

I tried using smigrate.exe but i cannot restore it. The document in
the doc library are archived but when i restore it, the documents
are not restored or it did not restore at all.

Here is what i have been doing so far.
1 first i create a sample site
2 upload a document in the doc. library to test if it can be archived
3 then i run smigrate from cmd
4 delete the sample site
5 create a new site of the same name as the one i deleted
6 then run restore using smigrate
after that the document which are supposed to be in the backup are
not restored in the site.

any help?

I use frontpage 2003 to do this all the time.

You need to use

stsadm -o backup -url <yoururl> -filename <filename>

to restore
stsadm -o restore -url <yoururl> -filename <filename>

Alternatively, you can use Frontpage 2003 to do the same

Note that there is a 10MB size limit for stsadm and smigrate. See also:

I don't know where you found this limit. I just use stsadm to
backup/restore a site which was 590Mb

There may be a limit with Frontpage but now with stsadm

The 125 mb limit in FP, is that everything? Sql Database and all?

well goto SQL server and opened the sitename_site database in the doc table
change the dirname which has changed..
and then works moreover the same can be done using
goto site Adminstration>> Import site(not sure about the name) and pass the file
name in the textbox with path. It will do the whole thing for u.

With sMigrate u have the issue of not getting the document migrated.Yess one
more thing can be done that is manually uploading the fiel using FP
I did this couple of times.
