Is Windows 2008 server stander edition Suitable for WSS 3.0

I need to host my sharepoint website it was created by WSS 3.0, and now i am asking about, Is Windows 2008 server stander edition Suitable for WSS 3.0. If not Please tell me the suitable version of microsoft windows server 2008.

Also please I need if there any Service Pack to enables Ome El-Cora Calender on windows 2003 sp2

After testing there is no service pack to ome El-cora caledar on windows  2003 sp2 and windows 2008  works perfect with this Issue.
