Wildcard Search

Asked By: Larissa    Date: Jan 01    Category: MOSS    Views: 774

Does anyone know of options (preferrably FREE since we have next to no budget)
for wildcard search in MOSS? It would be nice everywhere, but we especially need
it for our people search. The OOB "responsibilities" and "skills" fields need to
be searchable using wildcards. It would be nice if it worked for names, too
("Kat" would also find "Katrina" and "Katherine", etc.).

I've found old posts from people with the same problem, but I'm not really
finding solutions. I heard Ontolica has/had a free add-on for this, but I've
read it isn't supported or isn't free or...?? Not getting good info here. My
Googling hasn't gotten me anywhere great.

There are a couple of free  solutions available at www.codeplex.com.
Ontolica Wildcard was acquired by another company and is no longer free.

Do you happen to know how much the Ontolica Wildcard Search costs?

We specifically want to use this to enhance people  search. We need to be able to
use wildcard  search for responsibilities/skills if we want to do any type of
"expertise search." Right now, you have to know precisely what keywords the
person used if you are trying to limit the scope to search  just within those
fields. I want to be able to search the "responsibilities" field only for the
word "intranet" and find  "intranet management" and "intranet search", etc. Right
now, it will only return results if the person typed "intranet". It has to be an
exact match. :( I also can't find myself if I type "kat" in first name search.
That's not my full name, so it won't return my profile as a result.
