Why does SharePoint not like HTML?

Asked By: Sydney    Date: Nov 23    Category: Sharepoint    Views: 861

SPS does not seem to like HTML. It works OK if I use webarchive
format MHT.

It is not possible to upload a HTML-file from your browser (ver. 6
with sp1).You get the normal dialogbox but no files or folders are
shown and you can't save the HTML-file in your SPS networkplace. If
you save the file i MHT-format first then you can upload it without
problems.

You can drag and drop HTML-files from normal folders on your PC or CD-
rom to SPS without problems. They will be in checkout status. If you
show them in webfolder view you can see they are checked out but you
can't check them in. Checkin is simply not selectable in the
Properties box.

They do, however, seems to work OK if I, as a coordinater, try to
execute them.

Whats going on and where can I find some explanation about the
differns between HTML and MHT in connection with SPS?

Sorry it took me so long to reply, but I'm working on the problem.
Three scenarios:
1. save  as.. of all Office XP sp1  documents: no problem
2. Save as.. of PDF documents: My Save as windows shows no files  or
folders in my SPS network place (there are). When I click Save I
receive a window titled Server Logon asking for my domain, userid and
password. The PDF is saved OK when I log in.
3. Save as.. of HTML from MSExplore 6.028 sp1, txt from Notepad (and
probably much more): My save as window shows no files or folders.
When I click Save I receive a message box  with the following text:
You cannot save in the folder you specified. Please choose another
location. (very informative)
I'm on a windows XP prof. platform with Office XP so I should not
need the client software. Installing it does not change anything.

I just found out that I have the same problems  trying to save to my
MSN network place - so it is probably not a SPS problem after all but
maybe an authentication problem. My SPS is configured to Extranet
using the extranet.asp.
