When you go to choose a Site Template do you see an Enterprise Tab? If
not, then you are on a WSS installation and not a MOSS installation.
CMS is only available in MOSS.

I do have the Enterprise tab.............

I should have said Publishing. But if you've got Enterprise you
should have the Publishing tab also. The Publishing Portal and
Collaboration Portal are there. The only reason I know of for not
seeing the templates  would be if someone removed the webtempsps.xml file
from the ..12/template/1033/xml

Directory of the 12 hive. That is where they are defined. As long as
you are setting up a sitecollection from Central Admin you should see
them.

I haven't followed this conversation closely, but templates  don't always
show in all settings. For instance, not all templates are available if
you are trying to create a child of a Publishing site.

I think that's the issue.

Here's what I'm doing:

CENTRAL ADMIN -> APP. MANAGEMENT -> CREATE site  COLLECTION

At this point, my screen is different than the screen I see in this
video, for instance:

1:30 into the video it gets to the CREATE SITE COLLECTION page. Under
'Web Site Address' in the video, you see two radio button options:

() Create a site under this URL:
() Create as it at this URL:

On my screen, I have no such option, just:

URL: http://mydomain/[insert sitename here]

And, of course, I'm not seeing all the templates  either.

So, it seems as if I'm in the wrong place, I'm just not sure where the
right place is. ;o)

Based on Paul's response, I did check to see if I had the webtempsps.xml
file in my 12 hive. I do. However, I don't see any references to the
templates I appear to be missing  (compared to what I see in the video):

Collaboration
- Records Repository
- Internet Presence Web Site
- My Site Host

Publishing
- Corporate Intranet Site

So maybe the first question is if those are actually built-in templates
with a standard MOSS install.

If they are, then I'm probably in the wrong spot. Can anyone turn me
around and point me in the right direction?

That video is from a Beta version the screens have changed and the names
of the site  templates have changed.

if you are creating a SiteCollection in Central
Admin you should see two templates  in the Publishing tab. As I remember
one is Publishing with workflow and one without. Do you have a
Publishing tab and what is on it?

The Publishing site  with Workflow is available on the Publishing tab when
creating a site withing a site collection. But it isn't there for a new site
collection. Since, IIRC, the video was creating a new site collection,
that's what I used in my list of sites just now to Darrel. So yeah, it can
also be a question of where he's looking at the list of templates.

That video is done using the beta. The sites are different in the release
version. If it helps, these are the default templates  I have:

The option of the URL for the site name/location is now a combination of
things like: first site collection  in a web app and what managed paths you
may have defined.

OK, well, at least that explains it!

The lack of documentation/training from Microsoft is bad enough but why
oh why oh why do they keep tutorial videos online of BETA software!?

Yeah, what's really fun are the install guides that reference things renamed
from the beta. Like starting the "Windows SharePoint Services Help Search"
service. You get a really anal admin and that step there will derail the
whole project.

We have just done a database migration from 2003 and on the upgraded portal  the
only TAB i see when I try to create a site  from the home location is Publishing
and the only site under the tab is Publishing Site.
