Web Parts in My Site

  Asked By: Gonzalo    Date: Mar 03    Category: Sharepoint    Views: 1074

Can anyone tell me why I am unable to add a list as a web part on my "My Site"?

I am able to do it from any of my team sites.

Any thoughts, suggestions?

I asked the same question earlier. Unfortunately no one had the answer.

This was my question

"As there is no Lists called Links (NOT Links for You) in My Site, I created a Custom list  and added a new hyperlink column. But this Custom List is not available to drag and drop in the My site  page.

I started writing a web  part and then drag-n-drop the Custom List web part  on the My Site page.

protected override void RenderWebPart(HtmlTextWriter output)
SPWeb mySite = SPControl.GetContextWeb(Context);
SPListCollection listCol = mySite.Lists;
foreach ( SPList myList in listCol )
output.Write(myList.Title.ToString()+" ");
.....rest of the code...

Its returning "fpdatasources" as the name of the available list for My Site.
But when I drop the web part on a team  site, it works fine and return my all the lists names. Similarly it works fine for Portal(SPS)

I even tried by creating an object of SPSite. But I'm getting the same result."

Finally I'm able to create a new list that is also available in the web part gallery.

I thought that this question had been answered. The SPWeb, in the MySite
managed path, which hosts your private and public pages on your My Site
is common to everyone and different than the SPWeb, in the personal
managed path, which hosts the collaborative aspects of your My Site.

Since SharePoint scopes lists to the Web that they are contained in,
lists/libraries created in the collaborative Web are not available in
the galleries of the private/public Web. You can certainly include a
link to these lists but not a list  View Web Part. A Data View Web Part
could certainly be used but may not work the way you might think.
