Asked By: Rachel    Date: May 09    Category: Sharepoint    Views: 645

Does anyone know what/where i can go to
learn how to create a web part in visual studio then somehow which i do
not know import that to a sharepoint site where you can use that web
part.

1. When is it a good idea to create your own web part in visual studio
and when not to.
2. If I have to use the web part template in visual studio, where would
i find that. I open a new project and under the templates the web part
template was not there.
3. any web cast would help

Take another look at the Developer courseware that you got in class. Check out
Labs 2 & 3 of the Custom WebParts Techniques chapter. That has the answers to
all your questions. Other short responses in order listed below.

1. You can't really build a web  part in anything but Visual Studio. What
we recommended in class was not to use the Visual Studio extensions for WSS, but
to build your webpart  using the built-in Class Library template  as a starting
point. Both approaches us Visual Studio.

2. The VSeWSS web part  template is added when you install VSeWSS onto your
development machine. Note: VSeWSS can only be installed on Server 2003 unless
you hack the installation program.

3. There are some walkthrough's available on MSDN, but I would start by
going back through Lab 3 in the courseware. It has all the steps necessary.
