Web Parts for database access

Asked By: Edmond    Date: Jan 07    Category: Sharepoint    Views: 1309

I want to find a web part, commercial or custom-built, that allows me to connect to a backend database and do configurable queries, record operations (add, delete, modify, etc). Ideally this would work for MS Access, SQL Server, and/or MySQL.

Is anyone doing this? Can anyone point me to a good source?

Can't you just modify  a data view web  part in FrontPage?

I'm just learning how to configure web  Parts, and have not used FrontPage
much in the past, so please excuse any naive questions.

I'm assuming that, in order to insert a web part  on a particular page, I
have to use File -> Open Site rather than File -> Open. I've heard that when
you use FrontPage in this fashion to save a web site rather than a file, it
will unghost the site, causing performance problems.

I tried opening a site, pointing to a particular page, and doing an Insert
-> database  -> Dataview. I created a new database connection (to the
Northwind database on SQL), but get an error when I try to save it. It says
that a UDC file can't be saved. Any idea what this means and how to fix it?
