Web part zones

Asked By: Stacey    Date: Nov 29    Category: Sharepoint    Views: 1424

Didn't empty web part zones in v2 collapse (or disappear) when they
didn't contain content? I have a standard Team Site in v3 with content
in only the left-hand zone. When I view the page, SP still allocates
page real-estate to the right-hand zone that doesn't have anything in
it. How do you force the empty zone to give up its space to the other
occupied zone? Do you have to use the Designer tool to remove the empty

My guess is that the left zone  has a width of, say 80%, and the right
zone has a width of 20%. So, regardless of content, that left zone will
never be more than 80% of the width. Open the default.aspx page  in
either visual studio or SharePoint designer  (mind caveaots with this)
and change the widths as desired.

That's what I was afraid of. This seems like a
regression in the functionality of the product versions. WSS v2
didn't have this issue, as I recall (although portal 2003 did).
