Warning Message when I try to change Template

Asked By: Frederick Fields         Date: Dec 13, 2007      Category: MOSS      Views: 246

"Warning: The selected master page has no approved version. This site may
appear to be broken to users without the view versions right in the Master
Page Gallery.:

I downloaded some templates on the Microsoft website for MOSS 2007. I
"think" I uploaded them correctly, but whenever I try to implement one of
them, I get the error I pasted above. I asked a knowledge expert here at
work, and he suggested I run it through a validator /or check the file paths
of what I uploaded to what came out of the box.

I was wondering if anyone else has experienced this and might be able to
offer advice/insight/etc.

Templates are subject to approval workflows - it sounds like you added
these directly into a site's Site template  Gallery (Site Actions >
Site Settings > site  Templates under "Galleries"). If you did, go
there, click on the dropdown menu that appears when you hover over the
name of the template, and I believe the entry in the menu is marked
"Approve/Reject". Click that menu option and approve it.

Did you make sure to CheckIn and Publish all the pages of the templates  that you
uploaded? This is normally the error you see when the Master page  has been
edited, but not checked back in or approved.

I took a bit from both of your replies. I am no longer getting the
warning, but the layout is a bit... off. Just need to experiment with it a
little bit. But the main source of the problem earlier was that I either did
not have everything checked in or had everything approved.

I am doing all of this on a test site  collection, so at least I wasn't
messing anything up for anyone.
