Warm Up Scripts

Asked By: Jim    Date: Dec 29    Category: Sharepoint    Views: 1093

I am running through some virtual labs on microsoft.com and they make
use of warm up scriptss. I wanted to see if this is a common practice
in the real world.

I don't know about common, but I've seen it done at clients. Helps if you
have regular restarts or anything of the sort.

I'd say pretty common  as the application pools for moss recycle every night
giving the first person to access the site following a recycle very slow access
so we tend to set the warm  up script to run 15 mins after the app pool recycles
at about 5am

We run them early every morning at our current client because of expressed
frustration of users who experienced long delays in the morning when first
accessing the sites.

Just as an FYI, we are now only recycling weekly on 64bit boxes with big RAM.

You might also check out http://www.codeplex.com/spwakeup, but I usually use the
same warm-up scripts  MS uses.
