Virus Protection

Asked By: Kyle    Date: Aug 21    Category: Sharepoint    Views: 859

What is everyone doing/using for their virus protection on their WFE(s) for
SharePoint? Management wants me to look at Microsoft's Forefront but, I was
under the impression that it required a server component. Thoughts?

Forefront is the anti-virus program that you would install on your sharepoint
servers.

Right. But, doesn't it need to communicate back to a master server?

It's recommended that you use a server  component (System Center and
WSUS) for definition update management, but it is not required. It can
be installed without that configuration, in which case it picks up new
virus definitions from Windows Update

We use Forefront client on all servers. On our SharePoint servers, we
use "Microsoft Forefront Security for SharePoint" which is a separate
product.
