Versioning

Date: May 29    Category: Sharepoint 2010    Views: 496

In SP2007 I had versioning turned on in a document lib and space has become an
issue.

I have turned versioning off but old versions remain—I assume point forward
versions will be set to the new value of 1.

Please--- is there a way to remove versions from existing documents, other than
one document at a time!??

I've not used it (yet), but the SPServices jQuery library has a
DeleteAllVersions method which you can call with client script. Essentially
you'll have to write some JavaScript that loops through each item in the
library and invokes the DeleteAllVersions method. I'm pretty sure it works
with SP2007, but again, I haven't tried it myself.

I was hoping for a 'button' hidden somewhere!

Yeah, I've wished for a few of those buttons in my time :)

In List Settings, if you check the "Optionally limit the number of versions
to retain", it won't purge it right away but it will wait for the next
version of the document to be modified before purging the previous versions.
