Does anybody know whether Backup Exec 8.0 with the Agent Accelerator and the
SharePoint agent will back up a sps server?

Has anybody played with this before?

Backup exec 8.6 wouldn't even run on my server! Had to go back  to
8.5....the server is a standard Dell with SCSI DDS4. Nothing fancy....The
script is amazingly fast I might add!

I've ordered a Dell 2550 to run SharePoint on. The backup  media server is a
different machine, which is running backups for other servers including the
exchange server. Problem is that it is running Backup Exec 8.0.

So the bottom line is that you need Backup Exec 8.6 if you want to use a
Veritas product?

You need backup  exec and the agent  which is about $400-$500 per agent. BE
8.6 upgrade is $250...add it all up and ....well it is a lot. AND you can
not restore a single item but rather must restore everything to get back  a
single item.....
