I have been in a number of places where Veritas was the backup
package and have never had great success with it. In my opinion
Veritas is not the easiest of the backup  solutions to implement. I
have also had the catalog files not work after a restore. What I
implemented at most of the locations was to create a script to run
the msdmback util and then copy that backup to a location where
Veritas can just pick it up like a file. That worked fine and we
never had any problems doing it that way. It is somewhat
problematic because it is a two stage restore but it worked better
then just using Veritas straight.

Veritas solution for SPS is not working well, not just category also
for history versioned docs.

AvePoint's Doc Ave 2.0 works much better then any others. Enables to
backup all category, history versioned document and also dashborads.

AvePoint also provides first migrator and backup  for SPS v2.

Here is a link to an article I wrote regarding Veritas and SharePoint:

I have not tried AvePoint's software, but I have heard many people
praise it. I think the Veritas solution that you want to try to
implement depends a lot on your need....
