Using VBScript to Query SharePoint list data?

Asked By: Margret    Date: Apr 03    Category: Sharepoint    Views: 6133

have been looking all over for a solution to this and haven't found
a highly recommended/working solution yet. What I'm trying to do is
Query data from an access list using VBscript/ASP running on IIS.

Some users have put ways out there to just query it directly from the
SQL databse, although I have found what seems to be the correct query
method for this.. I know it is highly stated to not connect directly
to the SP SQL DB.

So another method is to use a method called SOAP? But this has issues
with active X controls on the users box.

And another method, would be to link the SharePoint list to an Access
database, then either connect to that or connect it to SQL. This
seems to be the most correct way to do it.. BUT, the biggest problem
with this is that when the list is updated in any way it isn't
reflected into the Access DB automatically?

So, my question.. Has anyone had any lucky/experience with doing
this.. Am I missing a method or does anyone have any insight on what
the best method of connecting would be?

Maybe it would be better if you can explain what you are trying to do at a
high level? It sound like you are attempting to access  SharePoint list  or
library data  - if that's the case the best (and only supported) methods are
either via the Web Services (can be done from anywhere) or the Object Model
(can only run on the SharePoint server). The MSDN documentation at
msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb264594.aspx covers this.
