Variations in MOSS - change variation label

Asked By: Jasen Guthrie         Date: Dec 02, 2008      Category: MOSS      Views: 641

I have a MOSS publishing portal with anonymouse enable that is created with a
variation source of english (en-us) and have created additional sites in french
(fr-fr) so this is working.

Now, that said, there are delegate controls that access a product database -
within this, the client has requested that a user (not a sharepoint user - to
sharepoint this user is Anonymous) be able to set his default language - so this
language is set in the database - I need to have a way to set the corresponding
variation in Sharepoint so the user can be redirected to the correct page that
reflects the change of language in the variation in the redirect url.

I assume I need to change the variation label. How can I change the variation
label within MOSS? If this is not the correct location/information to change,
what do I need to change in MOSS?

You don't need to. MOSS will automatically pick up the language  setting
from the user's browser. Have the user  set their preferred language in IE
in the Internet Options using the language button. MOSS will pick up the
setting and automatically redirect  them to the correct variation  label.
