Users in SharePoint

Asked By: Keaton    Date: Apr 07    Category: Sharepoint    Views: 1076

I have a problem with a User on a sharepoint site. Here is the

I have user1 - User Name, Display Name Sally Smith, who was added to
a site. Sally Smith leaves the company, so we delete user1.

Several weeks later in comes Bob Barker who has the User Name
user1. Our AD infrastructure re-uses id's. When i try to add User1
to the sites again, i get Sally Smith as the display name. In AD it
is Bob Barker. After an IIS restart we finnaly get Bob Barker to
show up in the display name, but when we go to add them to the site,
it says that the user already exists.

We have searched through all of the UI's on SharePoint and can not
find any indication of the user name's presence, we then go to the
STSADM, which can not make a connection to the server to enumerate
the user names. Despite the fact that it is on the same box and we
can ping the server.

Have you tried using /_layouts/1003/sitesusrs.aspx on each site?

yes and the user  does not appear there.

I assume you caught the typo in Bob's e-mail and also caught on to the fact  that he was referring to the following series of URL(s):

not the one specific URL:

Use that first format for each WSS site  under each managed path to look for your errant user.

If you caught both the typo and his intent then please indicate so in your reply.

Yes, I knew what he was asking for and the user  does not appear there.

When you say that you have looked through all the UI's, are you referring to "User Interfaces" (the web UI) or are you referring to each of the content databases' UserInfo tables? As far as I know, that's the only place where the user  information is stored. Have you modified any of SharePoint's tables' contents directly?

I am also curious what you mean by "we then go to the STSADM, which can not make a connection  to the server  to enumerate the user names. Despite the fact  that it is on the same box  and we can ping the server."

What error/message are you getting when you try to enumerate user names?

I have had site user  issues caused by sp2. There is a hot fix to
resolve it. Mine was caused by a incorrect email address. Everytime
I tried to readd the user..the old email address would show up..even
after it was removed from AD

I also found that going to the site users  section of the (not just
the place were you apply rights, the place were it shows who has
visited a site) enabled me to fix this issue.

You may also have an issue if you are deleting these accounts, and
recreating them, because the sid will change. Hopefully that is not
what you are doing. (Disable or rename..Dont delete  accounts)
