New users cannot login after change to Basic Authentication

Asked By: Bhavika    Date: Feb 07    Category: Sharepoint    Views: 3124

Cuurently, i am trying to deploy SPS
over the Internet for my company portal. I created a seperate new
site for basic authentication mode as specified in the Deploying
Sharepoint Portal Server Across an Extranet white paper. After
changing the authen mode, i tried adding new users to the Sharepoint
portal, but found out that, besides Administrator account, all of the
new users are not able to login even after i have included them in
the Sharepoint list and assigned them roles. This happens even after
i have restarted the server several times hoping that it will
register the new users in.

I really need some advise from those genius out there who have
deployed SPS over the Internet using Basic Authentication mode? Did
you encountered the same problems? and most importantly, did you
managed to solve it? Please help, i am really at my wits end.

You need to run proxycfg again after adding  in the new users. It works
for me. Let me know how it turns out.

yes we have dealt with this. Provided your domain is correctly set up, you
should be able to do this using either basic  or integrated security. We have
ours on integrated I think. The question is - can you log in at all? If not
then your domain needs addressing; otherwise, if you are getting
authentication prompts, check your browser security settings. Set your
custom security in your broswer to use your windows logon. This will bypass
additional aunthentication when going into SPS.

Please provide more details on your domain/NT/2000 set-up if the above
doesn't help!

Well, I had the same problem,
check in IIS in Directory Security tab on your website when you check
basic Authentication there is an edit button. You have to specify your
domain there.

Tried all of the advise  and it seems to
work, but after getting my new user to log in and trying to discuss
on a submitted document, Sharepoint keeps popping out a login  box and
when i key in the particulars of the new user and password, it still
won't allow me in to discuss about the document. I have read
somewhere in this forum that if u click on the "Cancel" button it
will be alright, but it didn't work in my case and just bumps me to
the "You are not authorised to view...." Page. But when i try to log
on as Administrator, it worked fine, but the discussion threads will
be submitted only under Administrator...I tried altering the security
model on the MSOffice folder under the web site in IIS, but it still
won't work...

Any suggestions will be greatly welcomed...Thanks in advance
again...you people have been great...
