User's Links on their MySites are all gone

Asked By: Kevin    Date: May 09    Category: Sharepoint    Views: 940

I'm not sure what happened but waves of users are banging on my cubicle
with pitchforks.

For some reason today, all of the users "personal Links" on their
mysites have all disappeared! Gone, nothing remains. We have a SPS2003
Farm with many mysites. It appears that ALL mysites are affected. I am
going to do some more research to see.

Before I panic and call PSS, does anyone have any clue how this could
have happened? Is there a global setting?

If anyone has any insight or needs more information please let me know.

More information just came in. It looks like it's the "My Links" webpart (or
any other custom webparts added to the page by the users). The webpart is
missing from the User's "MySite Page Layout" but when you go to add a webpart it
appears in the list (Ie. The List still exists). Just somehow, it has been
removed from the personal  views of everyone's mysite.

I'm wondering how this could of happened?

One other thing I noticed. It looks like a lot of the "default" web-parts of
the mysite have appeared back on user's mysites  (even if they had removed them
before).. I think my farm is haunted.

In SPS 2003, by default domain admins would be modifying the Shared
View of their My Site. If someone did this, it would affect all your
users. Make sure that any domain admins are aware of this, and only
modify the personal  view of their my site.
